James and Laura visit the Home of the Blues

James and Laura Morgan took a weekend trip to Memphis, TN, unfortunately for her grandfather's funeral. James got to travel to five different states. They started in Illinois, drove through Missouri and Arkansas, and arrived in Tennessee, specifically at her parents house in Collierville. The next day they drove to Olive Branch Mississippi to see her grandmother and the rest of my family. James got to meet about 22 of her family members along with about 11 dogs. They went back and forth from her house to Olive Branch on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, it was time to leave, but first Laura wanted to show James famous downtown Memphis. They walked down Beale Street and saw the Pyramid and Peabody Hotel, famous for the ducks that live in a penthouse on the roof. They also saw the Memphis Bridge, the largest illuminated letter in the world. They did not see Graceland or Elvis for that matter, but decided to explore some of the parks. The first park they went to was Nathan Bedford Forrest Park. Nathan Bedford Forrest was the general of a Confederate militia group during the Civil War, although he had no formal military training. He became a multimillionaire through a business in slave trading. He was buried at Elmwood Cemetery but in 1905, he and his wife were moved to what is today Forrest Park. James and Laura also visited Confederate Park and Jefferson Park, a memorial to Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America. James and Laura got to see many things on this Memorial Day weekend and they both had a great time.
